Hello sunshines! The day is just fantastic in Norway with blue skies and the sun is shining. Amazing! A perfect day to introduce you guys a new special guest.
First of all I want thank you Lisa for accepting my invitation to this interview. Please visit her site and spread some love.
Q.1) What made you want to start blogging?
I wanted to start writing again after taking a five-year break between 2010 and 2015. I wanted to start practicing on writing so that I could start freelance writing again for magazines and/or newspapers. One of my childhood friends, Ryan Loera asked me if I wanted to start writing in one of his blogs last year and I said yes. I eventually started Life of an El Paso Woman on February 25, 2015.
Q.2) How would you describe your blog to someone that never read it?
Life of an El Paso Woman is about the people and places in El Paso, Texas, along with music, movies, art, current events, women’s issues, the Hispanic culture, my life, etc. El Paso is the sixth largest city in Texas. It’s a border town that’s 45 minutes away from Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. It’s also 45 minutes away from Las Cruces, New Mexico.
Q.3) What’s your favourite part of blogging?
I enjoy interacting with bloggers from around the world. I also enjoy learning about different cultures and life experiences. It’s also been fun to meet people who are doing good things in El Paso and around the world. I like telling their stories.
Q.4) What is the most difficult things about blogging? And what do you find the easiest?
Building an audience is challenging. You typically start at 0 people looking at your blog. Finding time to blog can sometimes be difficult but it has to be done sometime. I find time to blog before going to my day job, after my day job and/or on the weekend. Once I get into my writing ‘zone’, I find that the whole blogging and writing experience becomes easy. Whenever I get writer’s block, I listen to Sade. Her soothing music helps me stay focused and get the creative juices flowing again.
Q.5) How much time do you spend on blogging?
Unless I go on vacation or something else comes up, I blog everyday except for Thursdays (I sometimes blog on Thursdays, especially if it’s something important). I spend about 10-15 hours a week (sometimes longer) on blogging.
Q.6) What do you think is the best social media strategy to get more visitors to a blog?
Make sure to include share buttons on your blog posts so that other readers can share your stuff on social media sites. It’s also a good idea to create your own social media accounts on any of the social media platforms. I have a Twitter and Facebook account for my blog. Twitter seems to work for me more than Facebook.
Q.7) Would you encourage other people to make their blog?
It depends on what their purpose for blogging is, everyone is different. I recommend blogging to work on one’s writing or creative skills, to interact with other peers and as a creative outlet. It takes time to build an audience and make money from a blog. I’m glad I make some money from freelance writing and blogging but right now it’s not enough to quit my day job.
Q.8) How do you motivate yourself to keep the blog up and running?
I think about blogging about subjects I like. Blogging about music, my life, entertainment and people/events in El Paso are fun subjects for me. If you’re having fun with blogging, your readers will pick up on it and have fun too.
Q.9) What was the most challenging moment in your blogging journey so far? Like I mentioned before, finding time and building an audience.
Q.10) Can you name some of your favourite bloggers and explain why they are your favourites?
Oh, I have so many favorites but here are a few. Tracy from A Joyful Process. He blogs about music and other topics that interest me. Erika Kind because her blog is always so positive and inspiring. Ritu from But I Smile Anyway. She blogs about anything and everything in her life. She also participates in different weekly blog challenges. Gwin from seekthebestblog. I enjoy her weekly “My Jams” posts on Thursdays. I enjoy your blog too, Roberta! It’s always so positive! I also like that you include other bloggers’ work and interviews. Keep up the good work! I’m also a big fan of Element Healing, All Things Chronic, Rob Goldstein, Lynz Real Cooking, Tony, Tikeetha and Van’s blog. I consider all of them blogging buddies and family…as Ritu says ‘my blogily.’
Q.11) What do you think is the best strategy that worked well for you to get more traffic to your blog?
Using social media and visiting other blogs helps. I like to leave comments for blog posts I really like.
Q.12) What are you doing besides blogging?
I’m a single mom to a 10-year-old son, I work 40 hours a week in media sales, read other blogs, watch TV and Netflix and spend time with loved ones. I also like to bake and try new recipes. Gardening and exercising also help me relax. I need to get on the ball with working out again!
Q.13)Is there anything else you would like to add?
Thank you for including me in your blog, Roberta, I appreciate it!
