The meaning of life is to live and help other live.

It’s sort of a variation on the golden rule: do unto others as you would have them do unto you, isn’t it? It is also a very worthy aspiration as it is difficult to keep in mind all the time our lives oscillate through their business, semi-independent of our best intentions.

Simply flow..enjoy..steam as it comes. Not bothered to know the meaning because I feel the meaning of life can be known only by living it.

Impossible to define life. There can’t be any definition for an eternal experience. To make it easier to understand, I would say Life is our ‘actions’ and the related ‘consequences’.

In light of the other quote it seems to mean we need to take a higher road than our own enjoyment if life is to mean something. This mind set stood against both the Epicurean and Stoic philosophies of the author’s day.

The meaning of life is the experience of being alive. Living every day and every moment to the fullest no matter what it brings…

  • Reply iglengel October 3, 2016 at 10:12 pm

Living each day to the fullest and treating our fellow man and woman as we would like to be treated.

Look after your family and the loved ones around you. Be kind to those who are passing through your life. And always have good intentions, but understand none of us are good 24/7.

It could just be that we all treat others as we’d like to be treated. Also, it could be like Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, whereby after we have our basic needs – food, shelter, sex etc… we reach for the meaningful things things until we’re giving to others getting to a higher state of fulfilment. Giving to others is part of that.

I think it’s important to add that serving others is not fixing or rescuing them.

To live a life of purpose is to share a part of you to others- you could help, inspire, influence…it’s living not only for oneself but for others as well…when we become someone for others…that’s what would make our life meaningful…that’s how I interpret the quote. ☺

If everyone is interested in this quote, I would recommend reading Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics. Nice use of Socratic method as well Roberta!
