New decoration

October 23, 2016

There is no secret that we have moved to a new place and everything is pretty new in our life in Trondheim city. We now count one and a half month since Johan and I decided to start a new adventure in our lives. I must say that things have worked out quite positively for Johan and I’m so glad that he is doing well. He was actually invited for an interview only a week after having moved to Trondheim and got the job one week after that again. Not bad to get a job only two weeks after having arrived to the city. Since then he has worked part time and now full time for 3 weeks as economist. However, things haven’t turned out quite positively for me but I want to stay positive and I am hoping and believing that I will get a job pretty soon. I must say though that Johan is more capable of supporting me economically than the other way around. Anyway, I am thinking of contacting some charity organisations and sign up as volunteer worker until I get a job. It is nice to contribute with something meaningful while I am waiting for a job.

We have moved to a tiny apartment that was furnished but we missed some stuff in it. I think it is very important to make an environment at home that makes you want to stay at home and provides a good atmosphere there. Since Johan’s job has only a temporary contract we need to have a buffer if his contract will not be extended once again or if getting a permanently job is getting delayed. That is why we are careful with our money and want to spend them wisely. Anyway, there were some things that we needed and therefor we went to IKEA yesterday since they have decent prices and many good looking decorations. Additionally, even though we are planning to stay in this apartment for a while we don’t know whether the things will suit in the futuristic apartment. Anyway, we felt that it was sort of urgent to do something with our situation.

The part of the apartment that we disliked the most was the TV section and we felt that we really had to do something with it. All the cables were visible and it looked really messy and it was really empty since we did not have any decoration. We did not know what to do and we have spent some time thinking about what would solve our problem. Then I came up with a good idea to buy some boxes to place in the TV section in order to hide the cables and at the same time having more storage. We only bought four boxes to be able to have some room for decoration as well above and we bought a few plants to give the apartment more life. Usually we tend to buy artificial plants because we always forget to give them water but this time we wanted to try with real plants. Let’s hope that we remember to water them this time. The only thing that we don’t like in the TV section now is the radio that actually looks like it is from an ancient time haha. It was actually included in the apartment when we came here. We will replace it with a newer one in the future. The autumn is also a lovely time to put some candles in your living room and give a warm atmosphere to your home. You can see the before and after pictures below.

We are a fan of bars and we wanted to make a sort of mini bar in our apartment in order to be able to offer our visitors something to drink. The shelf at the left of the TV section was not decorated either and Johan was the one that came up with the idea of making the shelf into a little bar. We therefor bought glasses to put in the shelf. We did not get the time to buy alcohol yesterday since it closes at 3 pm on Saturdays so we have to buy it this week.

We are quite happy with the decoration now and the only thing that we miss now is our pictures on the wall that is stored in Haugesund at my father in law’s house. I hope that you can get some ideas on how to decorate your living room if you are stuck like we were. We like our storage solution and it is great way of hiding mess and your living room will still look tidy. If you have any ideas that I haven’t thought of please share them with me and the other readers in the commentary section.

The sun is shining outside and it is a lovely day today. We are therefor planning to go for a walk and enjoy the lovely day!

Love your choices! My eldest daughter recently moved into a small apartment and used some shelving similar to yours for a room divider. I’ll be sure to show her your post 🙂

What a good idea for storage suggestions. One organization suggestion I like is using Mason jars to store anything from makeup brushes, flowers or food. They are relatively inexpensive and add a nice touch to any house. I also like command strips rather than nails to hang things up without the hole nails usually leave.
