I must admit that I sort of envy here way of living a little bit when I read that she is living on the beach. We share some interests like fashion and food. I got really inspired by many of her posts and it was a honour that she accepted the invitation to be my special guest. I encourage you to visit her blog and spread some love.
Hi Michelle, so nice to have you here today! Thanks for accepting my invitation!
Thanks so much for having me Roberta, I am humbled and honored to have been asked!
Q.1) Can you tell us a little about yourself and what inspired you to start a blog?
I am a mid-thirties wife and mom of two teenagers. We have made our home on the shores
of South Carolina, but are originally from New England. I enjoy doing art, photography and writing.
Life is a journey and adventure, I found blogging to be a great expression and extension of this.
Every day is an opportunity to be inspired!
Q.2) How would you describe your blogging style to someone that never read it?
Eclectic- I enjoy writing anything from inspirational to the tough topics, such as my struggles with depression.
Mom-life “style” humor, parenting and family topics are also mixed in. I love adding my own photography and poetry to many
of my pieces, also.
Q.3) What do you think is the best service a blogger can provide to his readers?
I’m not sure I would consider my blog a “service.” However, I do hope that whenever someone chooses to read
my pieces they find inspiration, encouragement or in the least some entertainment.
When I’m looking for bloggers to follow I enjoy originality! I also like those that I can connect with through
mutual empathy or experiences.
Q.4) How long have you been blogging?
I started three years ago, but it wasn’t the right time in my life and I soon fizzled out. I just took it back up a few months
ago and have truly found success and a great community of fellow bloggers.
Q.5) What is the easiest about blogging? And what do you find the most difficult?
I love words and once they begin to flow it is such a great feeling. I love the community and encouragement that I have
found in the blogger”sphere” also. There are so many great connections and beautiful people!
One of the difficulties I have is making time. As a mom of two teens (I also home school), a wife, self-employed
and the list goes on- sometimes I have to really purpose to take the time to compose my thoughts and write. Then, once
I begin, it can be hard to make myself stop and I could go all day!
Q.6) What are your goals for your blog?
Short term my goal is to be present and connect with those who I follow and follow me. I’m trying not to get caught up
in numbers of followers. I am working on enjoying the journey and not focusing too much on the destination.
Long term I would love to be published or recognized nationally. But, I really just enjoy moments such as this and how
fulfilling and humbling these times are.
Q.7) Is blogging your profession or just a hobby?
Blogging is a hobby for me, an amazing outlet and way of expression. I am not opposed to doing it professionally at some
point, but have no plans to do so at this time. I have found blogging to be a great therapy for my depression.
Q.10) How much time do you spend blogging?
My goal is to spend at least one hour per day, however, on a good day I will spend two to three hours.
Q.11) What do you do in your spare time?
I enjoy coffee with a girlfriend or dinner and a movie with my hubby. Board games and movies with my kids, or art,
photography and reading.
Q.12) Can you name some of your favorite bloggers and explain why they are your favorites? Feel free to link them 🙂
Heidi St. John “The Busy Mom” http://heidistjohn.com/blog ~ She is very inspirational and has great tips on motherhood,
faith and life.
Marcy “Ben & Me” http://benandme.com/ ~ Home School mom, inspirational and advice filled.
Q.13) Did you have any professional help or did you created the blog yourself?
My blog was all my own. I hope at some point to host my own sight, but for the time being I have enjoyed how user friendly
Q.14) What do you think is the best social media strategy for getting more visitors to a blog? Do you have any other strategy to get more visitors?
As in life, socializing is the best way to meet and make friends. Showing interest in other’s pieces, being consistent with
visiting your follower’s pages and commenting frequently- these are all great ways to connect. I also recommend posting
to any other social sight you frequent- personally I use Facebook and Twitter (hashtags are key).
Q.15) If you had to describe yourself in two words, which two words would it be and why?
Wow, that is hard!
“bubbly”- I am energetic, giggly and happy-go-lucky. Many have told me I’m always smiling and it’s my best quality.
“real”- I say it like it is. I don’t like fake or hypocrisy, it’s always better to speak the truth.
Q.16) Is there anything else you would like to add?
I’d just like to thank Roberta again for this opportunity!
I hope that y’all will visit and follow me at “Southern By Design”
