The message behind the blog name

December 14, 2016

Did you have any particular reason for choosing the name of your blog or did you just write down something that just came to your mind?

I have studied marketing at a business school here in Norway and one thing that fascinated me in that subject was branding. When we think of Louis Vuitton we think of something exclusive right? That is because they have chosen to build their branding in that way. An opposite example would be Subway, then you would probably think of fast food at a decent price.

Why am I writing about branding in this post? Well, succeeding in blogging is also part of building something. If you will be remembered then people have to attract your blog name to something. You must have a good understanding of what you are trying to sell on your blog. By selling I don’t mean products rather message. Yes, we are selling a message by blogging everyday because we want to share our message and in that way get more followers. You will probably be thinking that this is a business post but whether you hate business subjects or love them everybody must have an understanding of branding if they are trying to succeed.

(Picture in sommer before I cut my hair this year)

I chose my name because of something special. I did not just pick a name for fun. It was not a very unusual name but my own name. The reason for why I chose my name is that I want a personal blog and there is nothing more personal in life than choosing your own name. I want to share things that are happening and have happened in my life because I want to share experiences. I want to share my inner thoughts and hopefully inspire other people. This will be my platform where I can share my frustrations & happiness.

So when people read or hear the name I want them to think about something personal, experiences, a blog where you can get inspired. I don’t want to have a blogg that is only about fashion or food because that we be too narrow in my opinion. But still you can expect to find posts about fashion & food on my blog. Why s0? Because they attract me. I believe that it is important to strive for the good life and all the joy you can find in life. How will you get that you might ask, well, I would say by finding out what attracts you and pursue every attraction you can think of. Life is all about finding attractions and spread those attractions to other people by inspiring others.

Talk soon! <3

Great post. I’m a business student too so I agree with what you said about branding. I chose my blog name because I want to show that high fashion (hence the word Summit) can come out of Africa too. The clothing is not all “tribal” or “ethnic” as people describe it. That’s why I named it Style Summit Africa :). It’s about quality African fashion and style

I wanted something that rolls off of the tongue, and had to do with my life as a whole. I know that I eventually will be blogging a lot about my new life in a new country, new town, new environment (big city to little farmland type area), with my (soon to be) husband when the time comes. I didn’t want to use something too obscure, nor did I want to use my real name, so I used the character names that my fiancé and I used from the game we met on.

It may change in the future, but it works for me for now 🙂

Your name is such a fabulous one, I understand why you chose out for the name of your blog. I chose my blog name because I believe we all have a little something special, deep within us, waiting to be released – we just have to find it. Shimmering is like shining only softer, prettier and quieter.

Did you get the meaning or branding from my blogs title? I originally started the blog as a new unprepared unequipped dad home for a month on family leave. I liked to write and try to be occasionally funny or amusing. The blog served as a vehicle to send family and friends new kids pics and experiences. Then I tried to work in fitness, personal finance and travel, some of my other passions. You are right, my blog title attracted many like minded nice people. And meeting these new and interesting people has been my biggest joy. … in 3D..

    On the Naming of Blogs
The name Ghost Dog is in reference to the Jim Jarmusch film of the same name. I love this movie and the name Ghost Dog is the perfect trope evoking for me several levels of meaning, the first of which is my love for movies. Followed closely by my love for books, stories, photography and music. The movie contains all these elements and more. Including an eccentric character acting alone following his own code as expostulated in the book The Hagekure: The Way of the Samurai. Another element of my life very important to me is my interest and devotion to Eastern Philosophy. The way of the Samurai has long fascinated me. Two of my favorite passages from the book and included in the film are as follows:
“The Way of the Samurai is found in death. Meditation on inevitable death should be performed daily. Every day when one’s body and mind are at peace, one should meditate upon being ripped apart by arrows, rifles, spears, and swords. Being carried away by surging waves. Being thrown into the midst of a great fire. Being struck by lightning, being shaken to death by a great earthquake. Falling from thousand-foot cliffs, dying of disease, or committing seppuku at the death of one’s master. And every day, without fail, one should consider himself as dead. This is the substance of the Way of the Samurai.”
“There is something to be learned from a rainstorm. When meeting with a sudden shower, you try not to get wet and run quickly along the road. But doing such things as passing under the eaves of houses, you still get wet. When you are resolved from the beginning, you will not be perplexed, though you still get the same soaking. This understanding extends to everything.”
My tagline: Notes from the Underground with pictures says two things. First it is another literary reference about a disaffected character communicating with a wider audience from the vantage point of his underground location actually a “mouse hole.” This could be any blogger typing away on his computer keyboard in some dimly lit lonely basement,a cheap hotel with neon lights blinking outside, or lonely apartment on Santa Monica Blvd. or other such accommodation. I see Tom Waits, Charles Bukowski, or Nelsen Algren.
The picture thing has to do with my love of photography, visual images, and the stories they tell. I will be illustrating my posts with my own work for the most part, but on occasion, when the moment is right, I might snag an image off the internet.
Well, that about explains it. I would be interested in hearing what you have to say, so drop me a line or leave a comment. As my friend Timi says, keep the conversation going.

I believe in being the star of my own blog and that is why its named after me too. My name can be my brand and something people can use to get to know me.

  • Reply Magnolia July 18, 2016 at 2:40 am

Hi! I really like your blog! I really wanted to create a positive brand, and like you, i want to share my experiences and positivity with others. I also didnt want to make mine too narrow of a niche because i feel like i need to share multiple types of posts. I really think a positive message is needed by many people all over the world. Personally i have been through many financial challenges, and also my husbands depression. Once i really embraced life and decided to make the best of every day it turned my life around. So i thought of the word serendipity which means unexpectedly finding something good. I love flowers and gardening so i decided to call it It symbolizes to me that even in hard times, good things can happen. I just want to share that with others and i hope others like me can find a way to become a stronger person with every challenge they face.
On another note Norway is such a beautiful place! I love it there! ?

  • Reply gunnardeckare December 14, 2016 at 4:07 pm

I think it’s important what name you chose. For me “Gunnardeckare” was perfect because it said who I am and my interests. “Deckare” means Crime novels. I had almost no readers outside Sweden then. Now I have readers from many countries and should maybe change. On the other hand this how I am know so I am hesitating changing

Honestly, the name ‘Verbal Seduction’ isn’t invented by me. I read it, approx 7-8 years ago, and it got stuck like anything. I was so infatuated by the fusion of these two words that the day I ended up here on wordpress, I decided to name it -Verbal Seduction.
But, like you said, you want people to have an image of something or someone -personal as soon as they read your blog’s name. Same was the case with me. First, I love my name to infinity (that is what in some language it even means). Second, I’m a little bit of an attention seeker (not an irritating one though). I wanted to seek downright attention from everyone which made me add my name to verbal seduction. Although, Verbal Seduction Ananya makes no sense grammatically but it sure makes sense to me. <3
Thank you Ma'am for this question. 😀

It suits perfectly! It gives you space to write anything than being specific about topics like fashion or business. I just wish you write poems too sometimes! I would loove to read them! 🙂
