We bought a car

January 4, 2017

Is buying a car an investment? I’m sorry to say it but the answer is no. Since I moved to Norway I have had over 4 different cars and I remember that it was very expensive to have one. My life situation made it necessary to have one since everything was far away and I needed a car to bring my kids to different activities, drive to work etc. However, in 2011 I did not have my kids living with me anymore and that is why I made it possible to sell my car and save some money since it is very expensive to own a car in Norway.

Anyway, I have been without a car for 6 years now. I must say that I dislike to take the bus since I have to walk in all kinds of weather, I must plan my day according to the bus schedule whilst I can just drive whenever I want when owning a car but I managed to take the bus for 6 years. Johan is a little bit similar to me since he doesn’t like to make his schedule according to when the bus comes either. Furthermore, the busses tend to be very full of people and often we have to stand in the bus since there are no seats which can be annoying when you are tired and going home from work.

The day has finally come when we are able to own a car once again. Johan got a new job where he will start in January which is outside of Trondheim and that is why it was necessary to buy a car as well. A very convenient thing is that I am able to go to work with him in the car in the morning which will improve our life quality I must say. Even though Johan has bought it I will have the opportunity to take the car whenever I want which I am looking forward to haha.

We went to get the car today actually and we are very happy for it. We did not buy a new car since we want to build step by step and being reasonable. Moreover, we don’t have a garage and the car is parked outside which makes it better to have an older car. However, I must say that it is a good looking car which looks very modern and it is an automate car. In the future we are thinking to buy an electrical car but for now we are very happy to have a Volvo.

We are really happy with our achievement and we cannot wait to take a road trip very soon!

Take care! <3

I would be very happy with a Volvo as well. good decision on buying used. that should save you a lot of Euros. maybe it’s just me but by my observations auto ownership isn’t as commonplace as it is here in the states. but then again you have some very good metro transit to get you all around. the downside is waiting for a bus or for a tram and working your schedule to its schedule.

Thank you Jim! I really like Volvo as well. Norway is to small compared to the states, we are only 5 million in the whole country 🙂

We are currently investing in a preowned car, because it made the most economic sense. We live in NYC and everything is way too expensive as it stands. Good luck guys. Best.
