Guest Post; 3 Odd Questions to Help You Find Your Purpose in life

February 22, 2017

Some people go throughout their life wondering what their purpose really is. Philosophy teaches us that every human being seeks one thing, and that’s happiness. But happiness is too broad a term. What is happiness anyway? I mean it could be a lot of things. It could be your family, gadgets, money, and all other things. One thing we do know is that the things that we consider as the source of our happiness aren’t static. Not only do they wither off over time, we also grow tired of them. We might feel sad when we lose our favorite, and even feel the relief and happiness when we found out that we only left it in the other room, but the time will also come when we’ll grow tired of that favorite toy, and we’ll have a new favorite. That cycle goes on forever. That being said I guess we can say that figuring out what you truly want in life can go on forever.

The time will come that you’ll realize that it’s not really the material gains that will you truly happy. Rather it’s about finding your real purpose in life that will make you happy. But how do you figure out such a thing?

We often focus on the big things that we lose track of the little things. Unfortunately, these little things often turn out to be what’s really important. I prepped up these simple yet absurd questions for you to answer. As odd as they may be, they’ll give a reflection of your purpose in life.

What’s your favorite flavor of poop sandwich?

Yes. This is the ultimate question. What flavor of poop sandwich would you like to eat? Well, of course, there’s really no such thing as a poop sandwich. It’s only a metaphor for something that truly sucks. Now, I know what you’re thinking: why should I ask myself this insane question? Well, here’s something the teachers never taught you back in high school or even in college: Everything in life sucks, to some degree.

Life isn’t a fairytale. As a matter of fact, you can even say that’s the exact opposite of a fairy tale. If you don’t know how to maneuver your way through it, and then you’ll most probably get lost.

The purpose of this question is to know how to settle for the best among the worst. I hope that makes sense to you. I already said that everything in this world sucks to some degree, but people survive because they know how to select a few that’s just better off from the rest. If you open a stranger’ fridge, and inside, you’ll find three slices of pizza, two of which were already rotten, and one which is just getting to the rotten stage, but nonetheless is still edible. When faced with this kind of situation you’ll have to choose the third pizza. This example is mainly common sense, but in reality, people seem to be looking for things that don’t really exist like a perfect life, true love, or even the perfect boss.

Going back to knowing your purpose in life, don’t look for things that are nowhere to be found. If you want a job, and then go look for a job and start working. Some people often pity themselves for the job they have, thinking that there’s something wrong with their co-workers or even the boss, but as soon as they leave they realize that it was, in fact, them that’s wrong. As it turned out, any job that they enter seems to be a mess because it’s not really the job. It’s them rather.

What makes you forget to eat?

We all had this experience that we were so caught up with something in our life that we actually forgot to feed our self.

There was a time back in college when I was wrapped up in a group project that I actually forgot to eat dinner. It was only the following day that I realized it since my stomach was rumbling when I woke up.

I know you have your own story too. We all do. These kinds of stories might seem humorous, but in the long run, if we keep this up, which we’ll most likely do when we’re older it will be quite detrimental to our state of happiness and also our state of being.

These kinds of things occur because we might be unorganized or unsystematic in some part of our lives, and asking this question will really help you what that part I and hopefully seek a solution.

How can you embarrass yourself?

Before we ever got this good in our forte, we used to suck. We used to fail to do the simple things, and most of the times get laughed at. It’s most probably the reason why people don’t like doing it in the first place because it’s humiliating and being humiliated sucks. But if you don’t do this, you’ll never be able to grow. You’ll never be able to figure what it is you’re really good at. Who knows? Maybe that one thing you’re afraid to try could even be your life purpose.

Sure, you might think you’re already good now. You could think that you already went through the embarrassment that went along in the process and that you don’t want to get back there ever again. But seeing as how good you are right now, you could be even better. You just have to humble yourself and accept the challenge of learning.
