Nothing to lose

August 27, 2016

My DNA as a blogger is to always share positive thoughts and spread joy on my blog since I believe that people have enough dealing with their own problems than listening to mine. I don’t like to share my problems since I don’t want to use my blog as a platform for doing so. This post will have a positive message but also contain some negativity since my boyfriend and I we are facing some issues in the city where we live. Today we have a confession to make!

You have probably heard of the decline in oil prices and the consequences it has brought to oil dependent countries. Norway is an oil dependent country and we are living in the oil capital of Norway which is Stavanger. Stavanger has transformed from one of the best cities to live in to the worst. It has the highest unemployment rate in Norway and thousands have lost their jobs in the city. We moved to Stavanger because we felt that this was the city where the future looked the brightest and we really felt that the city would give us a safe future. Everything has changed after the drop in oil prices.

We had to get out of the apartment for some hours since we have spent a lot of time inside lately. We needed some fresh air to clear our mind and look at something beautiful to get some harmony. We needed to get away from the negativity we felt at home. The sun was shining and there were some boats there. I could even use a skirt and we were able to come up with some ideas.

My boyfriend is a recent graduate with a master degree in economics with specialisation in finance. He has applied for numerous jobs but every single one of them has been declined. This brings frustration not only for him but for the both of us. We feel that we are living in a city with no future and the situation seems hopeless. It has been some frustrating weeks with a lot of insecurity. We have been thinking what do to and we have not been coming up with an answer to the situation in Stavanger. My boyfriend and his dad went to companies for two days asking for jobs but every single one of them told him that they are laying off people and that there was no job for him.

Looking at my situation it is brighter since I want to work in the area of health. I have actually gotten an internship in one company but the salary is not particular high. Comparing my internship with a possible job in economics it is easy to understand that his job would generate much more income than mine. My salary as an intern cannot provide for both of us while his salary can. Additionally, it would be easy to get an internship in another city as well since they need a lot of people in the sector where I want to work.

The last couple of days we have been thinking a lot about what to do with our situation and we started to think about moving. What is there to lose? Nothing! He has contacted some companies in Trondheim where he has gotten some positive feedbacks. The situation looks much brighter there and he has a much better chance of getting a job there. Moving to Trondheim would really benefit me as well since my daughter is studying there and I would love to spend some more time with her as well. Additionally, we don’t have any children living with us which made the decision easier to take since no child has to switch school etc. But the last couple of days have been hard on us since the process getting to the answer is hard. However, we are looking forward to a new adventure in our life.

Moving to Trondheim contains some risks because he doesn’t know whether he will get a job there but you will never win if you don’t dare to try. In order to achieve something you must be willing to gamble and we have nothing to lose since the situation cannot be worse it can actually only change to the better. Now we are really looking forward to a new opportunity in life and we are eager to leave Stavanger.

Life is all about deciding whether to take the opportunities you have in life. Some of them you should take whereas some of them you should let pass you. We have decided to take this particular opportunity and we are looking forward to start moving.

It’s hard to keep up with all of your blogs as you are writing so many each day it seems. Maybe you need a full time job as an intern to keep you busy. Just saying…

All my blogs is on schedules. I use always a day or two to write posts for the whole week. I use only time on my blog in the evening and when I’m not working so I don’t see the problem to spend time writing if that’s what I love to do 😊
By the way I only write max 2 post everyday on my blog the rest is only reblogs…

Roberta! This is wonderful, positive news. Moving will be just what you need for jobs and your daughter. Change can be scary, but you have each other. Best of luck, although I don’t think you need luck. Namaste, indeed. -Jennie-

Sorry this is a stressful time for you both, but it seems you two have very good coping skills and have a very positive outlook on life. I am confident these core factors will carry you forward to a better future. Keep pressing forward. Best wishes on your journey. Hugs 🌷

Here’s a quote I have been using lately and it was given to me by God. Parked cars don’t move. Glad to see you are moving in faith.
