A Swedish speciality

Food is a necessity that is crucial for us to live and without it we cannot survive. We have all felt the feeling of hunger and how wonderful it is to eat afterwards. Besides, food is also  a huge part of cultures and it sort of binds people together in different countries. Would Italians have such strong Italian culture without the pizza and the pasta? It seems like that they can argue a lot within Italy and there is a huge difference between the north and the south of Italy but when they talk about their food they are all Italians.

In Scandinavia we don’t have as strong food culture as the Italians but we do have some. You have probably been at Ikea and tasted Swedish meatballs. I think they sell them at every Ikea warehouse in this world. The Swedes are known for their meatballs and even though there is a Norwegian variant of them I still prefer the Swedish.

The Norwegian ones are bigger and made with a brown sauce while the Swedish are smaller and made in a cream sauce with mashed potatoes. It is served with lingonberries jam and I am very curious to know if you guys know what it is. I had never tasted it when I first came to Norway and I must say that it was not common for me to eat the salty food together with the sweet jam and I felt that it tasted weird. However, today I am getting more and more used to eat it together with salty food.

This was our dinner for today and please let me know if you have tried the Swedish meatballs and specially the lingonberries jam.

    I tried the Swedish Meatballs in the Ikea Store in Miami and Fort Lauderdale Florida. I liked them a lot.

    Luuurve this Swedish specialty Roberta! We had this at Prinsen in central Stockholm, whilst it was a little pricey but it was seriously the most amazing dish I’ve had in Scandinavia. Agree that the sweet and savoury combination might sound unusual, but lingonberry sauce is definitely addictive with the meatballs. Yummo! ?

    Nope never. We sometimes have meatballs with spaghetti or Mexican meatballs called albondigas. They’re included in a vegetable soup. The albondigas have white rice inside of them. I can’t forget to add some green chile in the soup.

    Sweet and salty, like turkey dinner with cranberry sauce. But I’ve had these also and liked it.
